"The dead don’t get music. The dead don’t get beauty. The dead don’t get flavor, or color, or warmth, or friendship.
"Because the dead don’t feel."
"But I feel. I can’t stop. God, I’ve tried, and I can’t stop… and you do, too, I know you do…"
The Punisher (volume 8) #12
Greg Rucka + Marco Checchetto
Of the entirety of Rucka’s run, this scene and speech is by far the most often quoted and circulated. The dead don’t feel is now a common tagline. However, a significant half of it is understated: which is Rachel’s response to it. She argues the opposite against Frank, that he does still carry emotion, and that is undoubtedly true. It shows in how Frank pursues and shelters Rachel, how he seeks to guide her rather than leave her to succumb to her despair.
Especially since when Rachel makes this assertion, Frank does not correct her.
